Who is Snarfyboy?

Fig. 1: Me.

Well, for the purposes of this website, I am Snarfyboy, or simply “Snarf”. But people often call me “Brad”, “Hey You” or “Jerk”. I am a 41 years old, I enjoy pizza, the Cartoon Network, expensive fancy alcoholic beverages, and the outdoors.

Wait, wasn’t Snarf that wimpy little rat-cat thing from the Thundercats?

Fig. 2: Snarf.

Indeed he was. Loyal nursemaid and later sidekick to Lion-o, Snarf was the most misunderstood and underestimated of the Thundercats. Snarf also had a nephew called Snarfer who was much more technically adept then his uncle - he was a graduate of Snarf College! Yes, I said Snarf College. I was not fortunate enough to go to Snarf College myself, what with it being located in Third Earth and all. I went to Miami University in Ohio and I am not actually related to these feline characters in any way. Nor am I affiliated in anyway with the Telepictures corporation which ran the fine series which ran from 1985 - 88.

Okay, so why are you called Snarf?

It goes back to college. In my fraternity, everyone had a nickname. “Snarf” was my nickname. One day, someone decreed that I was Snarf, and henceforth, that was all anyone ever called me. At this point you are probably recalling the part from Animal House where Pinto asks, “Why Pinto?” and Bluto responds, “Why not?” Well, that’s pretty much how it was with me. Indeed, on the rare occasion someone used my real name, many people didn’t know who they were talking about.

So why isn’t this site called snarf.com?

Because apparently Tucows owns snarf.com. They aren’t even using it, the bastards. However, there were a number of variations on my nickname in college, and Snarfyboy was one of them, so I have chosen it for this website. I could have also chosen Snarfalupogus, Snarfus Maximus or Snarfus Interruptus. But snarfyboy.com seemed easier to remember then snarfalupagus.com - which I don’t know how to spell myself.

Where do you Live?

Okay, this takes some explaining so unless you’re really interested, skip to the next question. I currently call Milwaukee, WI my home and although this is a recent move, I also grew up here. In fact, this is the third time I have lived in Milwaukee. I have also lived in Dayton, OH on three separate occasions. People often find this confusing, especially when I bring my family into it, so let me take a little time to set the record straight:

I was born in Dayton, Ohio in 1967. In 1971, my family moved to Milwaukee where I spent my childhood years. Just when I started High School in 1981, my family moved to Ithaca, New York (this also had the odd result of me switching schools four times in two years and graduating from junior high twice, because the ninth grade in Ithaca at that time was still considered junior high). I graduated from Ithaca High School in 1985 and went off to college in Oxford, Ohio, not far from my birth place of Dayton. While in school in Oxford, my parents moved again - this time back to Dayton. So when I graduated in 1990, I moved back with my parents in Dayton until I found my first real job, which happened to be in Milwaukee. I lived in Milwaukee from 1991 - 1993. In 1993 I got a better job in - get this - Dayton. So I moved back to Dayton to live there for a third time (although the first time really shouldn’t count because I only have the vaguest memories of it). Shortly after I arrived in Dayton, my parents moved to - you guessed it - Milwaukee. The company I started for in Dayton would keep me in their employ for nearly 10 years, but not without my moving two more times. First I relocated to Cleveland in 1995, where I worked on a dedicated contract for British Petroleum. Then, late in 1998 things didn’t look so hot for the BP contract, so I moved to Saint Louis, Missouri to help support a new divisional office there. Now, as I am typing this in 2003, I have moved back to Milwaukee to be closer to my family. I don’t think any of us plan on moving away any time soon.

So to sum up, I have lived in the following cites in chronological order: Dayton, Milwaukee, Ithaca, Oxford, Dayton, Milwaukee, Dayton, Cleveland, Saint Louis and Milwaukee. Got all that?

What are your politics?

Politically, I don’t consider myself to be a Democrat or a Republican, but I am very socially liberal, so I often find myself siding with the former rather then the latter in political issues. At any rate, this site will try to keep out of things political, but the Daily Snarf might contain a “snarfy” editorial now and again.

Are you, well, you know?

The answer to that question is, “Yes, I am“.
